The Survivors of Gun Violence program consists of four key components: peer support groups, information & referral services, advanced 1:1 support services, and topic of the month informational sessions. Whether you’re newly injured or have been living with your injury for years, we’re here to support you and connect you to resources and information.

Information & Referral Services

We assist in directing survivors of gun violence living with a disability, their family and friends, or anyone who knows a survivor to community-based resources, services, and information.

Advanced 1:1 Support

We provide survivors of gun violence living with a disability, one-to-one support:

  • Navigating systems and barriers
  • Achieving a personal goal to increase independence
  • Connecting to resources, services, employment, and educational opportunities

Who is this for:

Survivors of gun violence living with a disability requesting support to achieve a goal. 

Examples of Advanced 1:1 Support Services include guidance and support with:

  • Adaptive Devices & Equipment
    • Identifying adaptive devices/equipment you may need to live more independently 
    • Locating adaptive devices/equipment resources and providers 
    • Completing adaptive devices/equipment applications
    • Using adaptive devices/equipment
  • Education
    • Completing college applications
    • Completing financial aid applications for college (i.e. FAFSA, etc.)
    • Requesting accommodations for college
  • Employment
    • Searching for jobs
    • Completing job applications
    • Resume and cover letter writing 
    • Requesting workplace accommodations
  • Financial
    • Completing Social Security (SSI & SSDI) applications
    • Utilizing online banking

    • Completing food pantry registration processes

Peer Support Groups

Survivors of gun violence living with a disability, meet to connect and support one another.

Who is this group for?

Survivors of gun violence living with a disability of any age, living in Chicago.

When?

ONLINE: 4th Monday of each month from 11:00am-12:00pm on Google Meets

IN-PERSON: 4th Tuesday of each month from 3:00pm-4:00pm at Access Living (115 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60654)
