Federal policy shapes the landscape of opportunity and access for millions of Americans, and for the disability community, the stakes of the upcoming election are high. Access to health care, economic opportunities, and even basic protections afforded by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act are at risk. Therefore it is important to know where the candidates stand on these issues. In Chicago, there are over 300,000 people with disabilities, with countless friends and families who also consider themselves disability voters.
To help keep our community informed on the issues that matter most to us, Access Living put together a 10-question candidate questionnaire with the aim of addressing major policy areas of concern to the Chicagoland Disability Community. The questions cover the following topics:
- Disability and Civil Rights
- Economic Justice
- Education
- Health Care
- Immigration
- Transportation
The Questionnaire was sent to candidates in the following federal races:
- IL Senate
- IL 2nd Congressional District
- IL 7th Congressional District
- IL 8th Congressional District
- IL 9th Congressional District
For accessibility purposes, we standardized the response PDFs so that every document uses the same formatting. We have not edited the content of the candidate responses in any way. What you see are the exact answers they submitted.
