Jose Martinez, CPACC

 

Jose uses his perspective as in individual who is totally blind to provide insight on accessibility and ease of navigation on websites. He has evaluated websites, applications and documents for clients across myriad sectors and has tested a variety of software platforms for accessibility. He has trained web developers, mobile app developers, testers, and project managers on accessibility standards compliance. He is a frequent guest expert in accessibility webinars, and he has presented to large organizations such as the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association and the Toy Association. 

Jose is proficient in using JAWS, NVDA, and Voice-over on MacOS and iOS, and uses assistive technology daily to perform his job. Prior to working at Access Living, Jose was an employee of The Chicago Lighthouse, where he was responsible for similar work as program manager for their Digital Accessible Experience (DAX) team. Prior to that Jose worked as an independent contractor, helping individuals experiencing vision loss use Voiceover technology in order to do their jobs efficiently.

As Access Living’s Digital Accessibility Supervisor, Jose uses his previous life and work experiences to manage a team of skilled, CPACC certified accessibility specialists. Together, Access Living’s Digital Accessibility team strives to inform, educate, and advocate for digital and equitable inclusion for all.

Jose is certified as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) by the International Association of Accessibility Professional (IAAP). Jose also holds a BA in sound engineering from Columbia College Chicago. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, home theater, and audio production. He played Beep Baseball with the Chicago comets for 10 years, including their 2003 championship season.
