Action Alert: No on New Home Services Program Overtime Policy

Dear Access Living friends and allies,

Today, we are ramping up our advocacy to protect the Illinois Home Services Program (HSP). As many of you know, we have fought for months to protect HSP against the DON score change. Now HSP consumers and providers face a different threat: a new policy on overtime that is extremely strict and is being enforced on a very short timeline. Consumers were notified of the change the week of Thanksgiving and have until January 1 to comply. Please see this link for a press release on the overtime policy, reflecting the advocacy of more than 20 disability and worker organizations.

We need YOUR HELP. We ask that advocates concerned with protecting HSP contact Governor Rauner TODAY to intervene to make the policy more flexible, and to ask the U.S. Department of Labor to provide that flexibility. Please take fast action at this link . You can also call the Governor at a) Springfield phone: 217-782-0244 or b) Chicago phone: 312-814-2121. Ask the Governor to stop the implementation of the HSP overtime policy until a more reasonable policy can be developed. Also, Governor Rauner’s contact website is at this link .

Let’s go Illinois! Without greater flexibility in the new policy, many people with disabilities and our home services workers will face significant crises this holiday season.
