International Women’s Day

March 8, 2021

Access Living friends and allies:

Access Living recognizes International Women’s Day, a global celebration of all women and the ongoing struggle to improve gender equality around the world. That includes trans women, cisgender women, and non-binary or gender non-conforming people in all walks of life.

Check out the United Nations media advisory on International Women’s Day. The theme is #ChooseToChallenge and the hashtag for social media is #IWD2021. Check out this webpage for toolkit materials on developing a campaign based off International Women’s Day. And, check out this article from Forbes by one woman issuing a challenge to be more disability inclusive and end disability erasure.

Part of celebrating International Women’s Day is celebrating the achievements of lesbian, bisexual and trans women, as well as non-binary persons. Check out this link for some highlights about trans women activists around the world. Here is a piece by the British Stonewall organization about lifting up the voices of lesbian, bi and trans women.

One of the most impactful parts of celebrating International Women’s Day is the collective responsibility we all share in curbing gender inequity in our society. Today is a day for everyone regardless of gender identity to choose to challenge gender inequity as they witness it.

Happy International Women’s Day.
