The Time is Now! Let's Fight to Save Medicaid!

The U.S. House is expected to hold a major Medicaid budget hearing the week of May 12. The time to act is NOW!

Access Living friends and allies,

The fight to save Medicaid in Congress is at a critical point. During the next two weeks, disability and senior advocates will be educating our elected representatives about why it is important NOT to cut billions of dollars in Medicaid. Medicaid is a critical lifeline, not only for healthcare, but for home and community based services.

How can you help save Medicaid?

First, take the opportunity as often as you can to contact your members of Congress to explain why Medicaid matters to you. Access Living set up an easy email form to contact Congress at this link, but we also strongly encourage you to edit the template letter to share your personal story about why Medicaid matters to you.

Join Medicaid action online on May 7. On May 7 starting at 1pm Eastern, national groups like Caring Across Generations and Little Lobbyists will be holding a 24 hour vigil in Washington, DC. You can watch the vigil live at this link. During the vigil, advocates from across the nation will share story after story about how Medicaid has changed our lives. Talk about the vigil online and with your friends and family. Help get the word out that we must save Medicaid.

Contact Access Living for help sharing your Medicaid story. We set up this webpage to help collect Medicaid stories from people with disabilities. During the next two weeks, we need to help get as many stories out in public as possible. They can be anonymous. Our page has some important tips on what to know.

Talk about Medicaid with your friends and family. The people who know you and love you should know that Medicaid is an important part of your life. Ask them to join you in contacting Congress to save Medicaid. Share news stories about the fight to save Medicaid so they understand what is at stake. Remember, our communities are about ALL of us! Most of us know at least one person who relies on Medicaid to stay healthy and safe.

Please take action! It’s important to know that when the stakes are this high, taking action once may not be enough. Consider calling or emailing your member of Congress every few days. They need to know lives are at stake! Let’s do everything we can to save Medicaid.
