Access Living friends and allies,

Today is the last day of the Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living (INCIL) week of state legislative action! Today, INCIL is asking that we all help contact our legislators to support the four bills we’re supporting, just once more. The bills and action links/items are as follows.

Legislative Accessibility Act: Also known as SB 180/HB 855, the Legislative Accessibility Act aims to streamline disability access to the proceedings of the Illinois General Assembly, and establish a process for phasing in accessibility improvements. Quick link to take action by writing an email is here! Fact sheet is at this link: Legislative Accessibility Act Flyer March 2021.docx.doc

Supporting Alternatives to Emergency Response: HB 2784 and SB 2117 are the Community Emergency Services and Supports Act (CESSA). The goal of CESSA is to ensure that 911 emergency dispatch can actually dispatch appropriate non-police support for people with disabilities who are in mental or behavioral health crises. The quick action link is here and the fact sheet is at this link: CESSA One Pager 3.19.21 (1).docx

Extending Transition Services for Graduating Seniors with Disabilities: SB 1821/HB 2748 would allow students with significant disabilities, who are graduating during the pandemic’s remote learning, to access in-person transition services even after they age out. The quick action link is here and the fact sheet is here: SB1821 factsheet 3-19 one pager.docx

Ending Source of Income Discrimination Statewide: HB 2775/SB 2492 is the same bill, designed to end source of income discrimination for renters statewide. Here is a quick action link to send a message to your state legislators for their support. Here is a one page fact sheet on the issue: SOI_onepagerandendorsers_3_5_V2.doc

Please share this advocacy alert with fellow folks in Illinois! Thank you for your support for INCIL’s week of legislative action.
