Disrupt Long-Term Care Coalition Hosting Advocate Summit on December 16

Are you passionate about expanding home and community based services, and reducing reliance on nursing homes?

On Thursday, December 16, join the new Disrupt Long-Term Care coalition for a summit to hear from advocates and stakeholders about the need for reform in long term services and supports. The coalition is also called Disrupt LTC for short.

What is Disrupt LTC?

Disrupt LTC is led by four core organizations: AARP of Illinois, Alzheimer’s Association of Illinois, SEIU Healthcare, and Access Living. As you know, the COVID pandemic put a spotlight on the long-term care system, and the need for meaningful access to home and community based services. In Illinois, thousands of people struggle every day to deal with the nursing home system and to get access to home services instead. It’s time for a statewide effort to step up.

What is the Disrupt LTC Summit?

The Summit is the kickoff effort by the Disrupt LTC coalition to talk about problems and opportunities to re-think long term services and supports in Illinois. Summit attendees will hear from leading experts, elected officials, and real-life people sharing their experiences in navigating a broken system. The summit will involve multiple panels looking at the problems with nursing facilities, the need to expand home services, and addressing disparities in long term services and supports. Access Living’s Director of Advocacy, Amber Smock, will serve on one of the panels.

Summit Details:

What Happens After the Summit?

We hope that the Summit is the beginning of more discussions among folks in Illinois who care about expanding home services and holding institutions accountable. Disrupt LTC is a a space where advocates who care about seniors, folks with disabilities, and support workers can come together. The Summit is also an opportunity for interested organizations to consider joining the coalition as well. We hope to see you there!

Please share this opportunity with interested advocates. Thank you.
