Watch Online: Congressional Hearings on Health and Human Services

This week, Congress will host three hearings related to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). All will be available to watch online. One is about HHS’ budget request to Congress; the other two focus on the impact of the massive program and staff cuts at HHS. The hearings are listed below in chronological order.

Tuesday, May 20:

The U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies will hold a hearing on the budget request for HHS. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is expected to testify.

Then, Senators Peter Welch and Tammy Baldwin will hold the first of two hearings on the impact of the shuttering of key departments and mass firings of health experts at HHS. The press release is here.

Time: 3:00–4:30 pm Eastern (2-3:30 pm Central)
Location: SD-G50, Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington DC

The hearings will include former officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Administration for Community Living (ACL), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

Wednesday, May 21:

Senators Peter Welch and Tammy Baldwin will hold the second of two hearings on the impact of the shuttering of key departments and mass firings of health experts at HHS. During this hearing, Access Living colleagues will be interested in hearing the testimony of former officials with the Administration on Community Living (ACL).
