On October 31, 2025, during Veto Session, the Senate and House passed bill HB1085, the mental health parity bill. This was a victory years in the making. Starting in January 2027, private insurance companies will no longer be able to pay providers of mental health and substance use services less than they do general healthcare services. This means that more people with mental health and substance use conditions will be able to access comprehensive mental healthcare. We want to thank everyone who rallied in support of HB1085. We had over 900 witness slips in support of this bill (compared to 36 against). The disability community rallying was essential to our success. The next step is Governor Pritzker signing the bill; we anticipate that he will sign the bill because his office has been very supportive of HB1085.
