HUD Needs to Release Federal Housing Counseling Funding

Housing counseling agencies are now entering their second year without access to Congressionally appropriated funds. These are important grants awarded by Congress and managed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funds that are needed would pay for housing counseling services that have ALREADY been completed. However, the Trump administration is using a maneuver called a “pocket rescission” to propose that these funds not be paid.

Housing counseling plays a critical role in improving housing stability and financial outcomes for current and potential homeowners and renters. It is a critical service that helps thousands of people with disabilities get and keep their housing every year.

We need our members of Congress to contact HUD and advocate for the immediate release of the Fiscal Year 2026 funds. These funds are critical to ensuring agencies can continue providing housing counseling services to individuals and families in their communities.
