Access Living friends and allies,

This Memorial Day weekend, we hope you rest and recharge…but we want to see you next week! We have two great events happening and you won’t want to miss them.

Knowledge is Power (KIP) on May 28: KIP is a webinar series hosted by Access Living and the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities.  During KIP, we talk about what’s happening on the federal level for people with disabilities. Next week, we will talk about the House budget bill, what it means, and what the Senate may do with it. KIP is a great time to hear from Illinois disability advocates and ask questions. KIP will be on Wednesday, May 28, from 1-2:30 pm Central. Although it is geared towards Illinois advocates, anyone can join. Register for KIP at this link.

Disability Demo Rally in Chicago, May 29: On May 29, from 1-3 pm Central time, Access Living and our partners will host a disability rally featuring speeches and street theater at Federal Plaza in Chicago, 50 W. Adams. We will speak out to DEMOlish attacks on Medicaid, housing, Social Security, veterans services and more. Disability is part of our DEMOcracy! Our goal is to come out for a DEMOnstration to energize folks for the fight in the Senate. We hope to have some exciting special guests, too. If you are able to join us in person, you will not want to miss this.

ASL and Spanish translation will be available on site. For more details/social media sharing, here is the Facebook event page. Organizations that would like to help support/partner on the rally should contact Amber Smock at asmock@accessliving.org

We hope that you will take this weekend to be kind to yourself and those around you. Rest. Heal. Recognize that you have worked hard. Then next week, come out to get energized with Access Living! The federal budget deal is not done yet. Please share this message with fellow advocates.
