If you provide care for a loved one with a disability you may qualify for wages by becoming a registered PA! \n\n\n\nSchedule training:\n\n\n\nIf you would like to be scheduled for a training\, contact a Personal Assistant Training Coordinator. Due to COVID-19 safety measures\, there are a limited number of seats per training\, and session locations may vary. DESCRIPTION:For our December Mental Health Support Group series\, we are offering a two-part mail art workshop series called “Crip Wishes” that will focus on creating and sending mail art to other group participants. The mail art will be themed around a new year’s “wish” for a randomly matched workshop participant and will be mailed out via USPS. The hope is to spread some holiday cheer and connect with one another through physical\, one-of-a-kind art even when we cannot gather in person. \n\n\n\nPlease register to attend and bring some found art materials such as old greeting cards\, postcards\, collage clippings\, stickers\, paint\, etc.! DCAL is a platform for creative advocacy projects and disability allyship training. Using a peer support and collective care model\, disability community members and art therapy graduate students collaborate as disability culture makers for social change. \n\n\n\nThis program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and by a federal grant awarded to the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. \n\n\n\nThe contents of this program were developed under a grant from the National Institute on Disability\, Independent Living\, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR grant number 90RTCP0005).  NIDILRR is a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL)\, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These trainings are open to members of the public as well as the family members of people with disabilities. If you provide care for a loved one with a disability you may qualify for wages by becoming a registered PA! \n\n\n\nPlease bring the following items to your training session:\n\n\n\nPhoto ID (Driver’s License or State ID)Social Security CardResume and three professional referencesCertified Nursing Assistant Certificate (if applicable)Face mask that covers both your nose and mouth(Optional) Proof of COVID-19 vaccination\n\n\n\nSchedule training:\n\n\n\nIf you would like to be scheduled for a training\, contact a Personal Assistant Training Coordinator. Due to COVID-19 safety measures\, there are a limited number of seats per training\, and session locations may vary. Contact a Personal Assistant Training Coordinator to reserve your spot and confirm your training session location.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Program\n\n\n\nPAs are hired directly by a person with disabilities\, not by Access Living. This means you will be employed directly by the person you’re hired to support.In many cases\, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS/IDRS) serves as the fiscal agent\, which means that they will pay you. Access Living is not responsible for payment or regulation of payment. \n\n\n\nOur program is for training only.
