SUMMARY:Sensory Touch and Soundscapes Interactive Session
DESCRIPTION:During this user-expert feedback session\, participants will have the opportunity to engage playfully with a touch-sensitive embroidered tablecloth alongside the artists\, Anke Loh and Christine Shallenberg. Touch-sensitive tablecloths will be displayed and linked to laptops and speakers so that participants can explore and play with the tablecloths and discover how they can elicit soundscapes. Artists who created the smart e-textile technology will be present to answer questions and share ideas and approaches with participants.  \n\n\n\nFeedback from participants is welcome\, particularly those with sensory disabilities (i.e. blindness\, low-vision\, Deaf-blindness\, Deaf/deafness and hard-of-hearing). Participants will receive a stipend of $80.  \n\n\n\n\nRSVP via Email\n\n\n\nRSVP via Phone\n\n\n\n\nAccess Information: Access Living is a scent free building. DESCRIPTION:Access Living is proud to host the Unveiling Party of DISABLED I AM’s Story Map project. Come and share your disability stories. We will celebrate disability through a mixture of art and socializing activities\, including a photo booth\, creating your own personalized avatar\, and button making. \n\n\n\nAll attendees will learn experiences and tales of disability pride from people with disabilities living in each ward of Chicago. The goal is for aldermen\, community members\, and stakeholders to not only learn about disabled people in their wards\, but also learn about the disability culture within each ward and barriers to essential resources\, services\, and rights that people with disabilities face in their wards. We hope to see you there! \n\n\n\nASL interpreters and CART captioning provided. DESCRIPTION:Step Ahead is an Access Living group for people with disabilities who previously lived in a nursing facility and are now living independently in the community. The group aims to provide knowledge\, information\, and community resources for people with disabilities who want to further develop their independence. This group also welcomes individuals who are currently in the process of transitioning out of a nursing facility  \n\n\n\n **Please contact the Independent Living Skills Trainer in advance to meeting dates\, as some meetings take place at various locations in the community.**

DESCRIPTION:Become a Paid Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities\n\n\n\nAccess Living provides training for people interested in becoming a paid Personal Assistant for people with disabilities. These trainings are open to members of the public as well as the family members of people with disabilities. If you provide care for a loved one with a disability you may qualify for wages by becoming a registered PA! \n\n\n\nSchedule training:\n\n\n\nIf you would like to be scheduled for a training\, contact a Personal Assistant Training Coordinator. Due to COVID-19 safety measures\, there are a limited number of seats per training. Contact a Personal Assistant Training Coordinator to reserve your spot. \n\n\n\nPlease bring the following items to your training session:\n\n\n\nPhoto ID (Driver’s License or State ID)Social Security CardResume and three professional referencesCertified Nursing Assistant Certificate (if applicable)Face mask that covers both your nose and mouth(Optional) Proof of COVID-19 vaccination\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Program\n\n\n\nPAs are hired directly by a person with disabilities\, not by Access Living. This means you will be employed directly by the person you’re hired to support. In many cases\, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS/IDRS) serves as the fiscal agent\, which means that they will pay you. Access Living is not responsible for payment or regulation of payment. \n\n\n\nOur program is for training only. We are not a personal assistant hiring agency.
