Extra innings -- contact Springfield again to protect community supports

On Wednesday, June 15, the Illinois Senate and House leadership will meet with Governor Quinn to try to reach a deal on the state budget. At stake is $430 million in funds for human services and other projects.

The state legislature has already passed a budget with big cuts, but the leadership is debating an amendment that would restore $430 million in cuts. If the amendment passes and this money is saved, Access Living and other centers for independent living in Illinois would see flat funding for centers for independent living and for the Community Reintegration Program (CRP), which transitions people with disabilities out of nursing homes.

Without the amendment, CRP would experience a cut of more than $300,000. The community reintegration program is an INVESTMENT for Illinois because community supports cost less than institutions and because hundreds of people want out of institutions.

Please contact the following people and ask them to restore the $430 million to human services:

Governor Pat Quinn, Chicago office 312-814-2121 and online email at http://www2.illinois.gov/gov/pages/contactthegovernor.aspx.

Speaker of the House Michael Madigan, Chicago office (773) 581-8000, Springfield office (217) 782-5350

Senate President John Cullerton, Chicago office (773) 883-0770, Springfield office (217) 782-2728

House Republican Leader Tom Cross, Springfield office (217) 782-1331

thanks for your support!

PLEASE CALL THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE 5 PM. Many disability services besides CILs and CRP will also be affected so please be sure to mention others you are concerned about as well. We’ll have an update email if they decide anything major tomorrow!
