Over the past week, more stories have broken about abuse, neglect, and death, and ignoring of such at systems of care around Illinois. The Chicago Tribune reported that at Alden Village North in Chicago, the Protection and Advocacy Group Equip for Equality uncovered the deaths of five more residents since 2008. In addition, an Associated Press story and Channel 2 reported that the State of Illinois ignored reports of abuse and poor treatment at a foundation that runs a system of group homes in Illinois. These stories underscore the problems of Iong-term care in Illinois for people with disabilities.
