DESCRIPTION:The Fall Peer Mental Health Support Group is an opportunity for Disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR\, this group is meant to offer an opportunity for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. Also\, the group members will explore art as an emotional outlet. \n\n\n\nThis group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy. However\, topics of mental health\, emotional wellness\, self-advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space.  \n\n\n\nParticipants may attend as many or as few group meetings as needed. SUMMARY:Peer Mental Health Support Group Summer Check-In
DESCRIPTION:The Peer Mental Health Support Group is an opportunity for disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR\, this group is meant to offer an opportunity for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. This group will also explore art as an emotional outlet. \n\n\n\nThis group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy though topics of mental health\, emotional wellness\, self-advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space. Participants may attend as many group meetings as needed. Group norms will be reviewed every week. \n\n\n\nAccess Information: \n\n\n\nDue to high demand for live captioning (CART) and ASL interpretation services during the COVID-19 pandemic\, we are asking participants to submit access requests 2-3 weeks in advance. As a platform for creative disability art and advocacy projects\, DCAL uses a peer support and collective care model in which disability community members and art therapy graduate students collaborate as disability culture makers for social change. Bodies of Work is a part of the Department of Disability and Human Development within the College of Applied Health Sciences at University of Illinois-Chicago. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

SUMMARY:Self- & Community Care Night (Hybrid Event)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of peer-led wellness opportunities! This event is hybrid and can be attended in person or virtually. \n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n5:00-6:00PM: Meditation and Adaptive Yoga \n\n\n\n\nA brief conversation about self and community care will introduce the evening. Following this\, Access Living’s own Ryan McGraw will be leading us in an adaptive yoga and meditation session.\n\n\n\n\n6:00-7:00PM: Community Coloring \n\n\n\n\nLet’s color together using the recently released “Disability Justice from A to Z” coloring book. \n\n\n\nJoining us virtually? Download and print the first three pages of the coloring book so you can participate from home.\n\n\n\n(Access Living has purchased 25 copies of “Disability Justice from A to Z” and will be handing them out to in-person participants on a first-come first-served basis!)\n\n\n\n\n\nAttend Virtually\n\n\n\n\nAccess Information  \n\n\n\nASL interpretation and live auto captioning (in Zoom) will be provided. \n\n\n\nAccess Living is a scent-free building.
