DESCRIPTION:Access Living is looking for models to pose for “Beyond the Scar”\, a portraiture project facilitated by disabled artist\, art therapy intern\, B Randolph (they/them). Models’ portraits & stories will be included in Access Living’s Disability Portraiture Project archive. If you are someone with apparent scars and have lived experiences of disability\, please join us! \n\n\n\nWho can participate?\n\n\n\nAre you someone with apparent scars? Do you self-identify as someone with disabilities\, chronic illness or who are Deaf or neurodivergent? \n\n\n\nIf this sounds like you\, then you may be eligible to model for the Beyond the Scar: A Virtual Portraiture Project!  \n\n\n\nHow to sign up?\n\n\n\nRSVP required. One person per time slot. You can click the “Beyond the Scar Sign-Up Form” button below or email B at brandolph@accessliving.org to confirm your spot.  \n\n\n\n\nBeyond the Scar Sign-Up Form\n\n\n\n\nWhat can models expect?\n\n\n\n\nModels are invited to share as many personal scar stories as they wish. \n\n\n\nModels will sit for a portrait and have full control of their portrait.\n\n\n\nModels will receive a portrait of themselves at the end of the project.\n\n\n\nFor models who can commit to 5 sessions\, a $300 stipend will be provided. \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator\n\n\n\nB Randolph (they/them) is an art therapy graduate student from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). B specializes in portraiture\, drawing the human form\, and the writing/drawing of comics. SUMMARY:Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group provides an opportunity for Disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. The group is held virtually via Zoom on Mondays from 5-6pm CT\, with one Monday off each month. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR and art-therapists in-training B Randolph and Miriam Austin-Wright\, this group is meant for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. Each month\, we will explore a different theme and its relevance in each of our lives. Sometimes\, we will explore the theme using art as a way to express ourselves.  \n\n\n\nThis group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy. However\, topics of mental health\, emotional wellness\, self-advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space.  \n\n\n\nParticipants may attend as many or as few group meetings as needed. SUMMARY:The Power of Art: Recycled Sculptures as Art Therapy and Eco-Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Does the climate crisis keep you up at night? Do you feel hopeless and depressed thinking about the government’s response to climate change? Are you interested in activism? A eco-art therapy study called The Power of Art: Recycled Sculptures as Art Therapy and  Eco-Resistance is currently recruiting participants ages 18-26 to take part in an in-person art therapy workshop series. The study will take place on April 6th\, 13th\, 20th\, 27th from 12-3pm CT at Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx).  \n\n\n\nParticipants will complete a survey\, take part in group art therapy sessions focused on using recycled materials to make protest art\, and have open discussion about climate grief and how protest art can be used to cope with despair about climate change. No art experience necessary\, but participants must be able to commit to all four sessions. \n\n\n\nParticipation in this study is unpaid\, but participants will get access to materials at CCRX and enrollment for free. Participants will also be able to keep the art pieces they create during the workshops.  \n\n\n\nPlease read and complete the interest form to receive more information about enrollment. \n\n\n\n\nPower of Art Interest Form\n\n\n\n\nAccess Information\n\n\n\nCreative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) is wheelchair accessible\, and ASL interpretation is available by request. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 2024 Midwest Inclusive Dance Festival! All bodies\, minds and experience levels welcome. \n\n\n\nThis is the inaugural event of the Midwest Inclusive Dance Festival! (MWIDF) will be an annual event bringing together people with and without disabilities for movement exploration. DESCRIPTION:The Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group provides an opportunity for Disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. The group is held virtually via Zoom on Mondays from 5-6pm CT\, with one Monday off each month. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR and art-therapists in-training B Randolph and Miriam Austin-Wright\, this group is meant for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. Each month\, we will explore a different theme and its relevance in each of our lives. SUMMARY:Sustainable Liberation Series
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable Liberation Series is a biweekly group series facilitated by disabled art-therapists-in-training Miriam Austin-Wright (they/she). Each of the two sections will meet biweekly in-person for two hours at the UIC Disability Resource Center Quiet Lounge (Room 231). The afternoon section will meet 1-3 PM and the evening section will meet 4-6 PM.  \n\n\n\nThis group series will use art-making and the sharing of experiences to weave together the interconnected strands of disability\, racial\, environmental\, and gender justice. Just as these forms of justice and activism are interconnected\, so is the liberation of the people facing injustices at the heart of such causes.  \n\n\n\nMaterials used in this process will include many found objects\, paint\, paper\, textiles\, and materials donated by Dark Matter Coffee such as used burlap sacks\, paper and plastic coffee bags\, and coffee grounds.  \n\n\n\nDue to the sustainability efforts of this group\, reused art materials may have residual smells\, especially ones like bags that contained coffee beans or grounds. Additionally\, this group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy\, however\, topics of mental health\, wellness\, advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space. SUMMARY:The Power of Art: Recycled Sculptures as Art Therapy and Eco-Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Does the climate crisis keep you up at night? Do you feel hopeless and depressed thinking about the government’s response to climate change? Are you interested in activism? A eco-art therapy study called The Power of Art: Recycled Sculptures as Art Therapy and  Eco-Resistance is currently recruiting participants ages 18-26 to take part in an in-person art therapy workshop series. The study will take place on April 6th\, 13th\, 20th\, 27th from 12-3pm CT at Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx).  \n\n\n\nParticipants will complete a survey\, take part in group art therapy sessions focused on using recycled materials to make protest art\, and have open discussion about climate grief and how protest art can be used to cope with despair about climate change. SUMMARY:Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group provides an opportunity for Disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. The group is held virtually via Zoom on Mondays from 5-6pm CT\, with one Monday off each month. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR and art-therapists in-training B Randolph and Miriam Austin-Wright\, this group is meant for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. Each month\, we will explore a different theme and its relevance in each of our lives. Sometimes\, we will explore the theme using art as a way to express ourselves.  \n\n\n\nThis group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy. However\, topics of mental health\, emotional wellness\, self-advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space.  \n\n\n\nParticipants may attend as many or as few group meetings as needed. SUMMARY:Sustainable Liberation Series
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable Liberation Series is a biweekly group series facilitated by disabled art-therapists-in-training Miriam Austin-Wright (they/she). Each of the two sections will meet biweekly in-person for two hours at the UIC Disability Resource Center Quiet Lounge (Room 231). The afternoon section will meet 1-3 PM and the evening section will meet 4-6 PM.  \n\n\n\nThis group series will use art-making and the sharing of experiences to weave together the interconnected strands of disability\, racial\, environmental\, and gender justice. Just as these forms of justice and activism are interconnected\, so is the liberation of the people facing injustices at the heart of such causes.  \n\n\n\nMaterials used in this process will include many found objects\, paint\, paper\, textiles\, and materials donated by Dark Matter Coffee such as used burlap sacks\, paper and plastic coffee bags\, and coffee grounds.  \n\n\n\nDue to the sustainability efforts of this group\, reused art materials may have residual smells\, especially ones like bags that contained coffee beans or grounds. Additionally\, this group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy\, however\, topics of mental health\, wellness\, advocacy\, and healthy relationships will be addressed in a structured and confidential space. Participants are encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible to contribute to the group’s sense of trust and connection. \n\n\n\nAccess Information\n\n\n\nReused art materials may have residual smells\, especially ones like bags that contained coffee beans or grounds. A nonbinary\, biracial\, and disabled individual\, Miriam is committed to building an intersectional therapeutic lens that perceives individuals as the multifaceted and experienced beings they are\, capable of enacting transformation personally and in the communities in which they live. These trainings are open to members of the public as well as the family members of people with disabilities. SUMMARY:Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Spring Peer Mental Health Support Group provides an opportunity for Disabled-identifying people and those exploring their relationship to disability identity to share and hold space for one another in an accessible and virtual setting. The group is held virtually via Zoom on Mondays from 5-6pm CT\, with one Monday off each month. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by disabled art therapist Bri Beck\, LCPC\, ATR and art-therapists in-training B Randolph and Miriam Austin-Wright\, this group is meant for participants to share current concerns\, thoughts/emotions\, and offer support to others through validation\, encouragement\, and even practical ideas to cope. Each month\, we will explore a different theme and its relevance in each of our lives. Sometimes\, we will explore the theme using art as a way to express ourselves.  \n\n\n\nThis group is not considered\, nor should it be a substitute for traditional group therapy. SUMMARY:Beyond the Scar: A Virtual Portraiture Project
DESCRIPTION:Access Living is looking for models to pose for “Beyond the Scar”\, a portraiture project facilitated by disabled artist\, art therapy intern\, B Randolph (they/them). Models’ portraits & stories will be included in Access Living’s Disability Portraiture Project archive. If you are someone with apparent scars and have lived experiences of disability\, please join us! \n\n\n\nWho can participate?\n\n\n\nAre you someone with apparent scars? Do you self-identify as someone with disabilities\, chronic illness or who are Deaf or neurodivergent? \n\n\n\nIf this sounds like you\, then you may be eligible to model for the Beyond the Scar: A Virtual Portraiture Project!  \n\n\n\nHow to sign up?\n\n\n\nRSVP required. One person per time slot. You can click the “Beyond the Scar Sign-Up Form” button below or email B at brandolph@accessliving.org to confirm your spot.  \n\n\n\n\nBeyond the Scar Sign-Up Form\n\n\n\n\nWhat can models expect?\n\n\n\n\nModels are invited to share as many personal scar stories as they wish. \n\n\n\nModels will sit for a portrait and have full control of their portrait.\n\n\n\nModels will receive a portrait of themselves at the end of the project.\n\n\n\nFor models who can commit to 5 sessions\, a $300 stipend will be provided. \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator\n\n\n\nB Randolph (they/them) is an art therapy graduate student from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). B specializes in portraiture\, drawing the human form\, and the writing/drawing of comics.
