SUMMARY:Low Spoon Activism Gathering
DESCRIPTION:To honor the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3rd\, Art and Culture Project joins the Disability Culture Activism Lab (DCAL) and Art Therapy Collective in hosting four art workshops this December\, including the virtual Low Spoon Activism Gathering. \n\n\n\nAs we enter the last month of 2023\, let’s take a moment to pause\, breathe\, reflect and nurture ourselves as a community. Facilitators will provide prompts for attendees. The goal is for participants to create tangible actions as they reflect on disability justice issues through art making and dialogues.Low Spoon Activism Gathering: The art of doing nothing is also about doing everything (Virtual) \n\n\n\nDoes going to rallies and street protests with unmasked protesters feel unsafe\, too stimulating\, overwhelming or exhausting for your bodymind? Unable to make a public political stance due to precarious immigration statuses or other personal reasons? You are not alone! \n\n\n\nActivism comes in many forms. The Low Spoon Activism Gathering is an anti-capitalist and anti-ableist space for attendees to share creative ways to practice activism. Let’s meet up from your couch\, bed or on the floor in your own home. We encourage participants to join the Zoom with a pillow\, blanket\, and your favorite snack/beverage. The facilitators will make collage with magazine clippings or digital art. Feel free to join us with the art/craft materials of your choice. \n\n\n\nZoom link will be provided after signing up. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP Form for the Low Spoon Activism Gathering\n\n\n\n\nLow Spoon Activism Gathering Access Information\n\n\n\nPlease contact Sandie Yi at syi@accessliving or 312-640-2187 if you have questions or access requests\, including requests for ASL interpretation. \n\n\n\nLow Spoon Activism Gathering Sponsor Information\n\n\n\nThis series of event is brought to you by the Arts and Culture Project at Access Living\, the Disability Culture Activism Lab (DCAL)\, Art Therapy Collective at School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, and the Shirley Ryan Abilities Lab.
