SUMMARY:Beyond the Scar: A Portraiture Project
DESCRIPTION:Access Living is looking for models to pose for “Beyond the Scar”\, a portraiture project facilitated by disabled artist\, art therapy intern\, B Randolph (they/them). We are seeking models who would like to include their portrait & stories in Access Living’s Disability Portraiture Project archive. If you are someone with apparent scars and have lived experiences of disability\, please join us! \n\n\n\nWho can participate?\n\n\n\nAre you someone with apparent scars? \n\n\n\nDo you self-identify as someone with disabilities\, chronic illness or who are Deaf or neurodivergent? \n\n\n\nIf this sounds like you\, then you may be eligible to model for the Beyond the Scar: A Portraiture Project!  \n\n\n\nRSVP required. One person per time slot.  \n\n\n\n\nBeyond the Scar Sign-Up Form\n\n\n\n\nWhat can models expect?\n\n\n\n\nModels are invited to share as many personal scar stories as they wish. \n\n\n\nModels will sit for a portrait and have full control of their portrait.\n\n\n\nModels will receive a portrait of themselves at the end of the project.\n\n\n\nModels will receive transportation stipend (PACE vouchers)\n\n\n\nFor models who can commit to 5 sessions\, a $300 stipend will be provided. \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator\n\n\n\nBrian “B” Randolph (they/them) is an art therapy graduate student from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Brian specializes in portraiture\, drawing the human form\, and the writing/drawing of comics. It is accessible by elevator. A wheelchair accessible restroom is available. Please request ASL interpretation and identify any access needs when signing up for a session. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Beyond the Scar: Portraiture Project Sponsor information\n\n\n\nBeyond the Scar: Portraiture Project is brought to you by the Arts and Culture Project at Access Living\, Bodies of Work: Network of Disability Art and Culture\, and the Disability Culture Activism Lab (DCAL).  \n\n\n\nDCAL\, a teaching lab housed under the department of art therapy and counseling at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a platform for creative disability art and advocacy projects\, DCAL uses a peer support and collective care model in which disability community members from Access Living and art therapy graduate students collaborate as disability culture makers for social change. \n\n\n\nBodies of Work is a part of the Department of Disability and Human Development within the College of Applied Health Sciences at University of Illinois-Chicago. \n\n\n\nThis program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and Shirley Ryan Abilities Lab.
