On July 1, 1903,workers at the Illinois Industrial Institution for the blind found themselves, without explanation, locked out of their place of employment.
On July 1, 1903, workers at the Illinois Industrial Institution for the blind found themselves, without explanation, locked out of their place of employment. After nearly four weeks of protest, a grievance meeting, and the receipt of a list of grievances filed with state legislators, the institution’s management agreed to meet with them.
In addition to meticulously made brooms, blind workers produced clocks for all state buildings across Illinois. This particular administrative clock was made at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind
