SEIU Local 880

Today more than 75,000 workers across Illinois and Indiana are united in Local 880. We work in the home care and home child care industries caring for seniors, people with disabilities and children.

Local 880 was founded over 20 years ago as an independent union with the guidance of our sister organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). The largest dues-paying community organization in the country, ACORN unites working families to build power for low to moderate-income communities.

We affiliated with the 1.6 million members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in 1985. Today more than 75,000 workers across Illinois and Indiana are united in Local 880. We work in the home care and home child care industries caring for seniors, people with disabilities and children.

SEIU is the largest health care union in the country and the fastest growing union in North America. We represent workers of all kinds, from janitors to nurses to security guards to public service employees. We stand together not only to improve our jobs, but to assure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care, to push for sensible immigration reform, to hold big business accountable for its impact on our communities and to elect politicians who support working families.
