Organizational restructure leads to exciting
changes at Access Living

For Access Living, 2010 is going to be a very important, significant and exciting year. While we are celebrating landmark milestones in the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 30th Anniversary of Access Living, we also are about to undertake tremendous internal changes. Access Living is excited to announce an organizational restructure that will help us function effectively, better serve the growing needs of our consumers and better focus on important issues affecting the disabled community.

Through a recent strategic planning process, we received valuable input from the Access Living community. Based upon feedback we received, we have restructured Access Living programs and services in order to facilitate a collaborative work environment between Access Living staff members and to deliver superior services for our consumers. As such, Access Living will be streamlined under the following structure:

Current programs will be divided into two categories – (1) Independent Living Services, which encompass all direct services (our 1 on 1 work with consumers) and (2) Advocacy, which will include community organizing, policy and legal work.

The new structure will better position staff to pursue our mission of empowering people with disabilities to live independently and creating an inclusive community. If you are currently receiving specific services at Access Living, don’t worry. Though we are restructuring internally, the programs and services we offer to the public will remain unchanged.

If you have any questions on how the restructure impacts you please call us at 312-640-2100 (voice), (800) 613-8549 (toll free) or 312-640-2101 (TTY)
