Seniors have long received inadequate home and community services in Illinois. Access Living has focused attention on the great disparity in services available to seniors who need long term care compared to younger people with disabilities. We have worked with Metro Seniors in Action, the Illinois Alliance for Retired People, AARP and the Jane Adams Senior Caucus on this issue. In our efforts to achieve parity we have succeeded in raising asset limits for people needing home care, created a deinstitutionalization program for seniors called Home Again and passed a Bill 652, that allows seniors to get needed personal care assistance, not just home making services as many days per week as they need service. Adequate funding is still holding back senior parity.
