ADA 25

On July 26, 2015, the disability community will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the landmark civil rights law that has opened doors of opportunity and access for people with disabilities across the country. The law has also changed the lens through which people see disability, raising awareness around the idea that disability is a natural part of our culture. To recognize the anniversary, there will be celebrations across the country and throughout the year. Nationally, the ADA Legacy Tour is traveling across the United States, partnering with diverse communities to trumpet the history of the ADA and the impact it has had across generations. The tour will travel through Chicago on July 18, 2015, the date of the Disability Pride Parade.

In Chicago, ADA 25 Chicago is bringing together partners to build new initiatives that will leave a lasting legacy of accessible, opportunity, and awareness.

Access Living will be a part of it all, working with ADA 25 Chicago, and planning organizational programs. Access Living projects in the works include:

An ADA 25th Anniversary Gala;
A Video that looks at the ADA through a Chicago lens;
A 25th Anniversary Lecture Series;
A partnership with StoryCorps ;
and more!
