Action Alert: Contact Illinois Senators Kirk and Durbin

Urge support for Independent Living Center Funding

The morning of June 9, 2016, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (L-HHS-Ed) is marking up the 2017 appropriations bill. This bill includes funding for Centers for Independent Living across the United States. In order to continue providing vital services to people with disabilities across the country, Centers for Independent Living need a $200 million increase in Independent Living appropriations (for a total of $300 million). Both Senator Durbin and Senator Kirk of Illinois sit on this subcommittee.

Please contact the senators this morning (now) and urge them to support this increase.

Thanks for your support,

Gary Arnold

I urge you to support $200M in additional funding in the 2017 budget for the Independent Living line item.

Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are grassroots, advocacy-driven organizations run by and for people with disabilities. CILs envision a society in which people with disabilities are valued equally and participate fully. In order to accomplish this vision, CILs support consumers moving out of nursing homes and into the community, and advocate for individuals facing discrimination in employment, education, housing, transportation, and healthcare to ensure equal opportunity for people with disabilities as citizens of our democratic nation.
