Expand Your World with Empower Access Fellows!

WorldChicago seeks homestay hosts for five emerging disability rights and advocacy leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, and Tajikistan coming to Chicago on a month-long U.S. Department of State fellowship program.

The fellows all speak English and will be placed in fellowships or internships in local government agencies, NGOs, or universities to explore topics such as disability rights capacity building; adaptive technologies; inclusive education, arts practices, and legislation; and wellness initiatives. The fellows spend Monday–Friday each week in their fellowship office or attending other professional activities, with weekends open to spend with host families.

By becoming a homestay host, you can play an essential part in our fellows’ cultural immersion experience — and learn about a new culture yourself! Our host families welcome visitors into their homes and provide a separate bedroom, breakfast, and some dinners throughout the program.

Two of our fellows require homes that are wheelchair accessible and two others have visual impairments. WorldChicago offers a $400 stipend per each fellow hosted. Additional funding may be available on a case-by-case basis for a personal care assistant for the visitor during their time in Chicago.

If you or anyone you know would like more information about hosting an Empower fellow, please contact Maria Krasinski, WorldChicago Program Manager at 312.254.1800 ext. 102, or mkrasinski@worldchicago.org.
