Report responds to Commission on School Utilization

Attached are Access Living of Chicago's comments on Interim Report issued by the CPS Commission on School Utilization on January 10, 2013. The Access Living report was authored by Rodney Estvan, Access Living’s Education Policy Analyst.

Access Living finds that the Commission has a significant misunderstanding of issues relating to CPS students with disabilities placed in separate classrooms pursuant to their Individual Education Plans and the utilization measurement of these classrooms in many elementary schools.

In this report, Access Living also discuss the issue of the potential closing elementary schools that may have been made physically accessible to students and community members. We ask that the Commission oppose such closings unless all students impacted can be provided a comparable physically accessible school.
