The 2011 Chicago Marathon is quickly approaching. On October 9, thousands of competitors will weave 26.2 miles through the streets of Chicago for the world-famous event. For the third year in a row, Access Living will be a part of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Scores of charities, non-profits and worthy causes around Chicago and Illinois field Marathon Teams. We are honored that more than 20 athletes have joined the Access Living Marathon Team and each one is busy training for race day.

In addition to preparing for the race, the participants are also helping Access Living. The team members are working hard to fundraise $900 for Access Living. By competing as part of Access Living’s Team, each athlete will raise critical funds for programs and services, and will bring awareness and recognition to the work of Access Living.

You can be a part of this effort. You can help our runners meet their fundraising goals. Visit the “related links” section of this page to donate to the 2011 Access Living Bank of America Chicago Marathon Team.

This year, a donation to a member of the Marathon Team could go twice as far. An anonymous foundation has gifted us with a matching challenge grant. Your donation could give Access Living twice the dollars! Support our programs by supporting our marathon athletes.

Join the Team on Sunday, October 9

If you are not on Access Living’s Team and you are not participating in the Marathon, you can still be a part of the action as an Access Living cheerleader. The marathon is on Sunday October 9, 2011. It begins at 7:20am for wheelchair racers and 7:30am for runners. Come join us at the Charity block party to cheer on our marathon athletes. Hope to see you there!

Look for the athletes representing Access Living (in style), including Access Living’s own: Bhuttu Mathews, Jason Gilmore, Laura Kingsbury, and Jacob Hyde (our former intern). Our runners are so excited to support our programs and services, so let’s give them our support!

What: Cheering on the Access Living Marathon Team at the Charity Block Party (mile 14 of the race)

Where: Adams Street, between Laflin and Loomis just north of Whitney Young High School

Who to invite: Please invite anyone you can think of who has a ton of AL pride (friends, consumers, etc.). The marathon is such a fun event. There are over 45,000 runners who could all use some AL spirit!

At the Charity Block party, we will be sandwiched between Great Lakes Area Sports Association (GLASA) and Spinal Cord Association; Did someone say, “Disability Pride!!”
