National Campaign to Stop cuts to Medicaid National political leaders continue to target Medicaid as a way to trim federal spending. Cuts to Medicaid would come at the expense of people with disabilities and seniors, threatening resources that enable people to live independently. A new disability campaign urges the White House and Congress to reform, rather than cut, Medicaid by investing in community-based services that save money and enable independence.	July 13, 2011
National Council on Disability gathering stories about voting experiences The National Council on Disability, in collaboration with the National Disability Rights Network and EIN SOF Communications, Inc., wants to hear about YOUR voting experiences during the upcoming 2012 General Election. New HUD Housing App a resourse for renters, homeowners, and housing providers Late last month, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the release of a housing app for mobile devices. New Safe Lifting legislation protects nursing home residents On July 30, Governor Quinn signed Public Act 097-0866 into law. The law sets forth policy to protect nursing home staff and residents from injury.	August 17, 2012
No place like home, April 16, 2010Access Living offers peer oriented, independent living services to individuals with disabilities. One such program is the Deinstitutionalization (DI) Program. The program was created in response to Illinois disproportional support of institutional care. Though the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead Supreme Court ruling of 1999 both give people with disabilities the right to receive services in their own home, thousands of people are forced into institutions because no community options exist.
