No Place Like Home No place like home, April 16, 2010Access Living offers peer oriented, independent living services to individuals with disabilities. One such program is the Deinstitutionalization (DI) Program. The program was created in response to Illinois disproportional support of institutional care. Though the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead Supreme Court ruling of 1999 both give people with disabilities the right to receive services in their own home, thousands of people are forced into institutions because no community options exist. New Safe Lifting legislation protects nursing home residents On July 30, Governor Quinn signed Public Act 097-0866 into law. The law sets forth policy to protect nursing home staff and residents from injury. August 17, 2012
New HUD Housing App a resourse for renters, homeowners, and housing providers Late last month, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the release of a housing app for mobile devices. The new is designed to make information about fair housing more accessible to all users. March 12, 2013
