Stop the Train Wreck! Rally to protect services for people with disabilities

February 24, 2011
This year, the State of Illinois is proposing major cuts to many programs that support people with disabilities. The cuts include mental health supports, developmental disabilities supports, substance abuse/addiction programs, centers for independent living, and limits to home services programs. Come rally at the State of Illinois Building (100 West Randolph) against the cuts, and hear people testify about what these cuts will do to their lives. Learn more details about the issues!

Following the rally, at 10 am, there will also be an Illinois legislative hearing on the Department of Human Services budget cuts. The hearing will be on the fifth floor of the Thompson Center and hosted by Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter.

Please wear something red to show your support for our struggle against the budget cuts!

An ASL interpreter will be present. For more information, contact Amber Smock, Director of Advocacy at Access Living, at (312) 640-2191 or asmock@accessliving.org (e-mail preferred).
Event Title: Stop the Train Wreck! Rally to protect services for people with disabilities
Description: Governor Quinn has pledged to take the disability community down the track toward independence and inclusion, and has suggested that the proposed FY 2012 Budget reflects that commitment. Yet, specifics within the proposed FY 2012 Budget indicate a cut to services that support people with disabilities living in the community and indicate a threat to the independence of people with disabilities. Stop the Train Wreck. Rally at the State of Illinois Building (100 West Randolph) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on February 24.
