Fire Resistant doors close off the areas of refuge. Two areas of refuge on every floor can each accommodate approximately six to eight people using wheelchairs. There is a direct connection from the areas of refuge to the fire stairs. Each area of refuge has evacuation chairs and a two way communication systems. Should the power fail, back-up generators support each elevator and evacuation chairs enable wheelchair users to be evacuated via the stair if necessary. Each area of refuge has directional instruction that doesn’t require vision or language ability
