Task Force on Attendant Services

Group meets the first Wednesday of each month
Access Living sponsors an Advocacy group called the Task Force on Attendant Services which organizes consumers to expand and defend home and community services for people with disabilities of all ages. The Task Force emphasizes the importance of consumer control and the adequate funding of Personal Assistant Services. It supports reform legislation to expand home and community options. The Task Force monitors Medicaid, Medicare and other health care budget needs for people with disabilities and responds to cuts in necessary spending.

Beyond the Task Force, the team is involved in various coalitions and networks that fight for home and community services, for well funded quality human services, for state compliance with the Olmstead Decision of the U.S. Supreme Court and Single Payer Health Care -- a high quality, affordable-to-all, tax funded health care system for every person living in the United States.

The next meeting will be on January 2, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Access Living. Larry Biondi will be facilitating and the agenda will include news on the Home Services Program, fighting the cuts Proposed to Medicaid, and summing up the efforts so far in working with the various coalitions to defend Medicaid. For example, “My Medicaid Matters,” The Care Congress and the accountability session with our Congressional people at the Chicago Temple. The year 2012 was not a good year for us with the state cuts to Medicaid. Let’s mobilize to make 2013 the year that the Disability Community Fights Back!
