As President and Chief Executive Officer of Access Living, Bristo is a nationally-Recognized leader in the disability rights movement. She helped to found Access Living in 1980 and has also served as president of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL), an organization that she co-founded. From 1994 to 2002, she served as the Presidentially Appointed Chairperson of the National Council on Disability (NCD). Ms. Bristo has received numerous awards including: the Leadership Greater Chicago Distinguished Fellow Award; the Henry B. Betts Award; the Americans with Disabilities Act Award; and United Way of Chicago Executive of the Year Award.
